Gold Coast Magic Millions - Surfers Paradise
Top horses, big money, great glamour and Queensland sunshine combine to make the annual Magic Millions Racing Carnival one the most desirable events on the Australian racing calendar. Held on the Gold Coast from Thursday, January 1 to Saturday, January 17, 2009, the carnival boasts some 40 events over an 18-day programme.
The 2009 event returns to its summer slot after shifting to Easter in 2008 due to the equine influenza crisis, bringing a special holiday buzz back to the track.
The sale attracts some of the biggest buyers from across the globe as well as leading Australian trainers and the catalogue stands on its track record of producing very fine gallopers.
Gold Coast Marathon - Surfers Paradise
THE Gold Coast Airport Marathon is a huge event on the Gold Coast run each July along the city's beautiful Broadwater foreshore precinct. The flat terrain and mild winter temperatures make it a runner's favourite. The 2008 event attracted a record entry of 21,001 - up by 30 per cent on 2007 - with locals from all over Australia joining runners from as far as Japan, America, Argentina, Kenya and 24 other lands.
The seven-race program was hailed a huge success with talk it had almost secured its status up there with the Hawaiian Ironman and New York Marathon.
University Games
The Games is the flagship event of Australian University Sport, the peakbody for university sport in Australia. The Games concept is based on other multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games, and the World University Games.
Over the past 13 years in excess of 60,000 student athletes have participated in the Games. As each year passes the event attracts a growing number of talented university student athletes.
The Games attracts a very loyal following of students interested in competitive sport, whilst meeting new friends in a "youth festival" atmosphere. Consequently the Games are best described as a high standard sport-tourism participation event. |
